Nokomis: for the record, yes, I'll defend those players, especially if there's a cheap mob-mentality forming on the opposing side - that, along with petty personal attacks, is the bane of any decent discussion. What I'm talking about is that people's real-life social circumstances are generally unrelated to how they play in-game, and painting people you have some dislike for as social rejects with no life is just as pathetic as calling them 'noobs', perhaps even more so seeing as calling someone a 'noob' merely comments on their prowess in-game, whereas concluding someone has no life is grasped pretty much out of thin air, and as I proposed has no direct correlation to their playing style anyway. It's just weakness of character.

Argh, i hate elitists as well.. About 2 days ago i began battling in the tomb of primeval kings, so yeah, I'm a 'n00b' (damn i hate people who call people that :|). Anyway, was playing today, didn;t think the team was playing too badly, cos we won the first match.. onto the second match, and my friend, and one of the two monks in game, got disconnected from the server, so yeah.. gonna be tricky with 7 players and only 1 monk. Things go a bit badly, but we've not lost yet.. then the other monk is like 'screw this' and leaves, so yeah, it's pretty clear we don't have a chance with no monk, so we all begin dying and doing rubbish.. as you'd expect with 6 players and no monks, and I, like most people I'm sure am thinking, nevermind, just a game, will try again in a minute, but then some member of the group starts swearing and getting worked up, and blaming the teams failure on all of us, saying how much we sucked and we were all n00bs, and shouldn't even be allowed to play.. I got so damned angry, it's so unfair that one single person can ruin my fun so much by just being a complete and total arse, I may not be the best PvP player *yet*, but I'm damned if i'm going to be blamed for whatever is obviously missing in their life.. grr :|

[Edit: sorry for lack of sentences :P]

Actually, I don't believe people are looking at both sides of the situations. Just as much as the elitists are being condemned, I believe the dumbasses should be as well.

Especially those who are stubborn, can't take advice, or are elitist in the fact that they think they are correct, when in fact, they're WRONG.

I said something, and a party member said I was wrong. I said, "No, I'm positive I'm right." and he keeps insisting that I'm wrong. Well, I did my research before making such statements, and I got it from the guildwarsguru main site. He obviously was one of those people who managed to ascend but were still complete idiots. Anyways, I was getting pissed off at his stubbornness so I said (being the monk and our party was being whooped as the other monk died) "I'm busy, I don't have time to argue with noobs."

So he blows up and claims that this is why he wouldn't listen to me; because I was elitist and he claimed that I thought I was a god and better than the whole party. So I claimed that I was right and if he didn't have the decency or motivation to go research it himself then the noob could just go stfu for all I care. Yet the idiot kept insisting that he was right. So I said, "I'm the monk here. Pretty much, I'm more important than you are." And the non-trapping, non-Winter using Ranger in Ring of Fire said to me, "Yeah, right."

Can you believe this idiot? So I said I would leave if he didn't stfu. And he said that I could do that if I would "feel good about myself for doing such a noob thing." So I told the party to thank him for the loss of a mission and left.

Perfect scenario of where the "elitist" is the one who is correct.

Elitism: Rule or Domination by or belief in an elite

All of you with your negative experiences are just giving a bad name to elitists. What most of you refer to are idiots.

I've just thought of a question akin to "If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound?"

That question is: Who is more pathetic, a person who uses "noob" as an insult, or a person who is offended when called a "noob"?

Get over it. Nobody knows everything, and if somebody knows more than you do, I would glean as much info off the sucker as I can. Even if I have to endure repeated insults and being called a "noob." Ohhh nooo I'm a noob, now my girlfriend will dump me and all those girls who had crushes on me will think I'm a loser

Is there any polite way of telling someone who is new at something the correct way and they don't know yet because they are new? Noob is a simple way of saying that. Saying it without any useful information and in a nasty way is uncool, but few of the elite would behave in this way. Most likely it is some random person at level 20 doing nolani academy who thinks their the shiznit and everyone else is a noob. Someone who thinks they are elite but not.

Yeah, they wouldn't talk to the dumb noob in the first place.

Just by the pure fact that someone is acting/thinking they are better than me.....does unfortunately drop them below me on the evolutionary ladder (ny no actions of my own).
That makes them better than you since YOU evolved from THEM. Seniority!!!

These people that look for reasons to make them selves seem superior to other players, usually by time spent playing. If someone doesn't know a certain aspect of the game, they usually start with the mockery and cries of "n00b" (god I hate that *profanity* word!). They expect everyone to know every little intricacy of the game right out of the box.

For *profanity* sake! Give people time to learn! Some of us have lives outside of the friggin game. These people and their attitude make it harder for new people to find groups and thus enjoy the game. These people tarnish our gaming time with bitching, mockery and inflated egoes. These people ruin the community, by spreading their god forsaken attitude to other people. Making some players feel this is how it needs to be, that new people really are the devil (or some tripe like that).

Well to all you people out there (you know who you are). CHILL THE *profanity* OUT! It's just game, some of people are still learning the ropes. Give them time, help them along. No I wont kick them from the party because they dont know what a smite is. No I wont kick them because their build isnt the way you think it should be, no I wont kick them because they dont have any rank.

Also "newbie" is not synomynous with "idiot", a new player isnt necessarily a bad player. Also a so-called "experienced" player isnt necessarily a good player. Just because your an asshole with a self-inflated sense of superiority doesn't make you superior. Don't be a prick in-game just because your a loser in real life. Don't be an ass to new players to make up for your life's inadequacies.

I could go on and on and on. But I'll end with this...Grow up people.

I'm chiming in way late I know. I'm not going to bother to read the replies. I know what they are anyways.

I've been jumping around from game to game and I find that the majority of mmo and rpg players are often times agnostics or atheists.

Being an agnostic myself I can tell you that the mindset of such people is often (but not always) that they are superior to everyone.

It doesn't suprise me that the mindset stays the same in game. Shoot, that's my mindset as well.

But you have to remember. Just because people are new, doesn't mean the ones who know the game in and out have to be patient with them. I absolutely will not group with people who don't know their class. I won't be rude about it, I'll just leave the group without a word (unless in a mission, then I wait until they wipe a few times) and walk away.

I'm sure your post is directed to the asshats who are extremely rude to new players. But seriously, I was new too once, but geez I could read skill descriptions, follow directions, and listen like it was nothing. I don't understand why some people cannot and these are the ones I refer to as "n00bs" (otherwise they're just noobs).

If you don't know your class because you're new, that's one thing. But if you don't have the common sense to say, "hey, i shouldn't run into that big group of monsters" then get the hell out of my group. You're wasting my time and I have no respect for you.

To end my post, there's extremes on both sides. You have your elite assholes and you have your "can't find their way out of a paper bag" noobs. 90% (I made that up) of the community falls in between. Unfortunately the extremes of each side tarnish the rest of the community.

There are some real dicks out there. But, not everyone has to be patient and wait for newer players, if experienced players choose to leave without being assholes about it, then accept it and go on.

the only thing this noob is going to contribute to this thread.

An Idiot is an Idiot, a Condescending Moron is a Condescending Moron, regardless of how many hours they've played, how new and inexperienced they are, or how well they know the game.

Idiocy is a state of mind, being a Condescending Moron is the outward expression of the condition of Idiocy combined with a lack of maturity and an inferiority complex. Neither is a product of game experience, game knowledge, or game accomplishment.

Some "Elitists" are Morons. Some "Noobs" are idiots. Some "Noobs" are Morons, some "Elitists" are Idiots. Most regular players are neither.

The wise can seperate the Idiots and Morons from the normal folk who are worth playing with. and The Wise should never need to argue over such definitions.

A little common courtesy goes a long way. There is rarely an excuse for nastiness or rudeness. Yet, MMOs are rife with it. I imagine an infantile personality finds the anonymity of the game an overwhelming enticement to childish behavior. I exposed one player's scam and he started insulting me and saying he would get me. How, I wondered? Fortunately, GW is not Diablo, where he might have PK'd me.

So while the Diablo-style fools persist, they aren't really going to rule anything. Anyone can reach level 20. Eventually you will find a group and finish the mission. You don't need to be rushed anywhere. And you don't need to pay somebody to get something for you or accomplish anything. You can do it without the help of an Uber character. You are just as Uber as the next guy. There is no godly equipment the acquisition of which will make one character awesomely superior despite truly astonishingly bad play. There are no cheats, hacks, or exploits to brag about. Any diligent player can eventually learn enough to become as good a player as most. You can't even steal the drops of other players.

So, what's left for these guys? Name calling, nastiness, and rude behavior.

Peace
